Figure drawing as a spectator sport? It’s never been tried but on Saturday, June 6, 2009 at the Asterisk Gallery in Tremont, four established figure and drawing groups will meet up and draw against time and each other for the amusement of an engaged audience. Trying to capture the ‘magic of an honest drawing,’ costumed models and dancers will be drawn live by competitive artists vying for praise and prizes. The disciplines will range from quick gestures to a 90-minute portrait (run concurrently.)

As of this release, the groups planning on participating include Dr. Sketchy, The Murray Hill Group, Tremont’s Pretentious Artists of the Literary Cafe (with our own Beth Mastroianni taking part), and N.O.I.S. (The Northern Ohio Illustrators Society.)

The fastest caricature artist in Cleveland, Adam Pate, will be on hand as part of one of the Murray Hill team as well as be available for audience portraits. Tremont legend Tim Herron will be competing with his Tremont’s Pretentious Artist group that meets on Friday nights at the Literary Cafe. George Kocar and Jeff Suntala will be featured artists from the Northern Ohio Illustrator’s Society. Jason Tilk and Aaron Erb will bring some of their many emerging artists that frequent their Dr. Sketchy events.

The public is invited to witness this first-ever event and will be encouraged to comment and/or join in. Finished artwork will be available for purchase during and after the event.

Refreshments, music, and drawing materials for the inspired will be provided.
Event Coordinators: Deb Steytler, Juan Quirarte, Tim Herron,
Aaron Erb and Jason Tilk
